There are mounts you can find and mount, all with the strangest faces I’ve ever seen. The grass is lush green, the water is a burning blue, the desert is…well, a desert, but a pretty one. The world is immediately fascinating and unlike most post-apocalypses, it is a riot of colors so strong that it is enough to make your eyeballs take a vacation. At the center of everything is the world tree, a massive plant that has been striked by four huge World Eaters that you must defeat. They are an eclectic bunch, all covered in fur and often boasting baffling character traits, including looking like Elvis for some reason. Humans have long since disappeared, and in their place are mutated animals that now roam the landscape, living in villages and continuing their lives. The game takes place on a version of the Earth that has been heavily polluted. Let’s start with the coolest thing about Bioutant: it’s a crazy frame. But in the end, we have to review what is really here. It practically requires a sequel, a chance to be everything it can be, and in some ways it’s almost worth buying Biomutant just to support the developers and help them create something that could be an outstanding open-world action RPG. The fact is that despite all the many reviews that I will address to Biomutant throughout this review, it remains a game brimming with great potential. It’s an adventure that spans an 8km x 8km map filled with radioactive areas and furry NPCs that…wait, is this just a game for the Furries? Jesus, that explains so much. I mean, what other game allows me, as a strange rodent wearing a duck helmet and swinging a giant sword, to pose next to the corpse of a big monster wearing cute pajamas after I vomit toxic sludge everywhere? This is a game where you can magically conjure mushrooms to bounce and ride all kinds of creatures with strange faces. That’s what the game lacks and what could have prevented it from being the pretty mediocre RPG that it is.īut there are moments of glorious brilliance within Biomutant. There is a bolted feeling in Biomutant that speaks to a team that is trying to bring several concepts together. But with so much going on, it quickly becomes clear that Biomutant is not doing anything very well, and each of its ideas is superficial.
